Waterproofing K10D & tele lens ?!?

I have 'lurked' here for almost a year and never found the need to post as a quick review or search has always found someone else asking the exact question I have and getting knowledgable answers. But the time has come - I have a question I can't find an answer to!

We take a lot of surf shots with K10D and Tamron SP 300 (f5.6 not 2.8 sadly) standing at waters edge but find that it's still too short. Not having the funds to buy a decent longer lens like a Bigma one solution is to walk further into the sea whilst shooting. But of course there is always the risk of tripping and the kit getting a dunk in seawater and suspended sand- not a risk I'm willing to take.

Advise from local shop is to buy a waterproof housing. Internet searching shows a 'strong plastic bag' type solution which is guaranteed to 10M which is more than enough for a thigh high paddle in the water. But all those that I can find seem to cater only for shorter (i.e. physicaly smaller) lenses.

Any ideas??

Sorry i can't help you with the waterproof casing for a K10 with a 300mm
prime. Can't say i have seen anything close to fitting that combination.
But have you tried a good quality Teleconverter with your lens, maybe a 1.4 or 1.7 i hear they give very good results on primes. :

Didn't someone use non lubriucated condoms for this purpose? I'm not sure what they did about the front element but I don't think they were protecting against full immersion.

Thanks Clarky, we have tried a couple of 2x TC's but the prime being only f5.6 it was too dark at the speeds we need to capture the action. 1.4 would not be enough to make a difference but 1.7 may be worth a try. I'll see what we can get over here.

Love the condom option!!

If you can solve the front element issue then the condom option hould work well if everything is auto as you don't need to twiddle anything. I gather the problem is getting non lubricated condoms.

Even if we find we can't use it for the camera it's a great idea for our keys whilst we are surfing ourselves.
