Waterfall

Not sure about this shot, perhaps its a little too busy or not rally leading the eye but perhaps you could help me make up my mind whether to dismiss it or not.

Honest thoughts welcome.

My first impressions are that it's a lovely shot, but I agree, it might be a little busy. Once the eye's followed the waterfall down, it starts hunting around, and there's a lot of textures to take in.

I'd consider a crop to show only the upper left 'third' or so. So, cut from the right about where the rocks meets the horizon, and from about 2/3rds down, if that makes sense.

If it doesn't, I could give it a go tonight when I get home to show you what I mean.

Havign said that, it is a really interesting shot, and looks like a fantastic location!

Were you trying to show the difference between the static ice and moving water? I think the water is too thin and wispy against the very strong outline of the rocks and ice. Maybe to me it does not give the impression of a cascade.

I find myself wishing there was more 'context'... more of the landscape on the right hand side. The shot falls between a landscape shot and a close up really. Nice scene though. Reminds me of a frozen Kinder Downfall!

I think it's nice shot Steve with good overall tones.But slightly lacking compositionally.I think if it were just the waterfall without the sky it would be a lot better.

I agree with sanderscapes, I keep finding that the sky and right hand side keeps drawing my attention away.

How does it look rotated counter clockwise 5 degrees or less?

This was my first waterfall shot. I was attempting to slow it down enough to blur the water, something I had never tried before. I found getting an exposure slow enough to blur the water but retaining detail in the ice crystals in the foreground fairly tricky at first, it took a CP filter plus a .9 a .6 and a .3 ND filter stacked to get it slow enough.
I think bforbes is correct in his point,perhaps it would look better with the water frozen instead of blurred and would suit the ice better.

And yes the sky is distracting I agree. So, either a wider shot, more of a landscape or a close in shot may have been better.

The location is on the path up to the Glyders in Snowdonia, I was not alone so did not have the time i would have liked to compose (experiment) with this shot.

Tried the rotating and it helps but I a going to forget this one i think.

Off to sunny climes (Spain) tomorrow so hopefully I'll have a few pics when I get back, (no ice hopefully unless its in my drink).

Steve it took my breath away at first glance.But hey, you don't need to forget it,unless you planning to take another picture of this beautiful scene!

Hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of trying a couple of things.
A contrast boost seems to help define the picture better, at the expense of a few droplets, and the 2nd image is rotated a tad and, obviously cropped. Whether you think they're improvements or not, hopefully gives you some ideas perhaps?

yeh that is an improvement i think,the contrast boost certainly helps, food for thought for when i get back.
