Water - caught in the act

I was fortunate to capture a little 'lake' of rainwater today as it overbalanced from a nasturtium leaf.
We think of water having a perfectly smooth surface, or in this case, meniscus, but you can see stress lines forming across the surface
as it gets ready to spill.



Water, in tiny quantities like this, and on highly repellant surfaces, behaves more like a mobile solid. It even has a well defined 'underside'.



And in a split second it overbalances and moves so quickly there isn't even time for a second shot.
