They are the UK official Pentax repair/warranty agent. Over 1 year ago they did a warranty repair on my K1 which involved changing the main electronic board. Good as new after the repair.

I needed a repair to the SD card reader on my K1. So I sent it to J Pye. (As the registered repairer) on 1st June. Still not received the camera back as yet. I was also billed what I thought was a very excessive price for what in effect is a part swap..

John Pye replaced the SDM motor in my 50-135 last year. I was very happy with the service provided, the time taken and the price.

I was in the area on other business, so was able to drop the lens off. Quote provided by email the next day. I accepted it and made payment online. The work was done in the timescale quoted and the lens posted back to me.

All very straightforward and well organised.

Finally got it back today...!! Perfectly repaired.. ! If expensive.

I really cannot fathom why a camera repairer is unable or unwilling to service every make of camera; ok there is a difference between mirrorless and DSLR/SLR/rangefinders but within those categories they are pretty much all built the same way.

Probably because they can't get the parts unless they are "authorised" by a manufacturer. It's taken me a few months just to source a lens mount screw for one of my Pentax lens and I've still not received it.

John Pye is an auction house. Their website says "All items in our technical auctions are repaired by our team of expert engineers who assess each individual item to determine the lenght of the warranty.". They say their tech services include:
Fully refurbished tech and gadgets
JPT parts and labour warranty offered with each item
Smart phones, tablets, laptops, TVs, cameras, beauty electricals and more from top brands including Apple, Samsung, Sony and LG
Repair, refurbishment and support for Ricoh Pentax products
DSLR sensor cleaning
Phone Screen Repair
Tech Repair and Refurbishment

There's no reason to suppose that they only repair Pentax photographic equipment. They just happen to be the authorised repairers for Ricoh Pentax products.

Amazing what you can find on the internet .

Availability of parts, and ability to offer guarantee on repair itself and parts used.

I've used John Pye Technical twice, once for warranty work on my K3ll and once for out of warranty work on my 50-135DA*

I was very pleased with the service I received and pleased with the price of the out of warranty lens repair.

I live very close to where JP Technical are based so I took my camera and lens in personally and only ever saw Pentax cameras and lenses there.
