The Tamron 70-300 is a superb lens, I have to say - got a huge soft spot for it.
AF is quite fast and it's sharp at F8 throughout the range.

It really is a nice lens. Better to stay just under 300mm in macro. I usually try to stay at the 180 setting though.

glad i'm not the only one who loves this lens. it's my most used lens, i've even started using it with extension tubes for those shy creatures that don't like a lens in their face.

Pentax k1000, MX, ME Super, K5iiD 18-55, Tamron 70-300, Tamron 500 mirror, pentax 10-17, 50 1:4, a manual 28, some extension tubes and a bagful of memory cards. That's all i need... and a load of film cameras too... that's it, honest.

Can you help. This looks like a good lens but as a newbie I am unsure of the actual spec. Is it Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 AF Di LD Macro Lens - Pentax Fit. Would this fit my K-m. I see this one priced at around £100-130 which would be just right for me but is it the same lens you are talking about.

Sorry to go off topic, but I notice a fair bit of duplication in your lens line up, Bob. 50-135, 55-30, 70-300. What important qualities do the 50-135 and the 70-300 Tammy bring that the 55-300 doesn't offer?

That's a fair question..
I bought my K20D with 18-55MKII and the DA 55-300, and whilst the DA 55-300 is a good lens, i just get frustrated with it's shockingly slow AF.
The Tamron is stellar in this regard, and equally as sharp. Sometimes though the 70mm starting point is a bit too long, but still not enough for me to reach for the 55-300 instead.
Plus the Tammy has it's macro mode which is a huge bonus, and due to the focal length you can pull of a really great depth of field.
Then I really wanted a DA* lens for SDM and weathersealing goodness (not to mention outstanding IQ).
The DA* 50-135 is regarded as one of the best DA* lenses you can get, and I was'nt interested in the 16-50 in the end as I have a good copy of the kit lens.
I managed to grab one of the last DA * 50-135's at their original price, and I really enjoy using this very fast maximum aperture of 2.8 throughout.
Yes, my lenses do overlap in focal range, but not in attributes. I'll shoot with the kit lens and the Tammy generally at F8 mostly. The DA*50-135 can equal that sharpness at f2.8.
So it all depends on what I need for a given situation.
Finally - just thought about it, the Tammy is a full-frame lens, not one designed soley for aps-c; so it works nicely with my MZ-60 and the effective focal range then makes it really really useful.
Hope that answers the logic behind my lens collection.
