I am thinking of buying a W80 as a main compact camera for the following reason;

I have a nipper on the way and would like to have a take anywhere camera that will get good images and video footage including water shots.

Any feedback or options will be great.

Regards
Jon

W80, your child deserves better! I bought one on a whim, very poor image quality, an awful lot of noise and the colouration was not good. That was after it was repaired for having all of those faults to begin with.

Pentax agreed and gave a full refund after I had had it for 6 months. I have no knowledge first hand about other Pentax compact waterproofs but I was told by the Johnsons techie that the earlier versions to the W80 were a lot better and that they never had them for repair except when they had been dropped. Go try a few cameras out and don1t get stuck on a particular brand. You will be hard pressed to find better image quality and value for money with Pentax DSLR`s and Pentax lenses. I have a K10 and a K20 which are wicked and robust.

The sensor in the W80 isn't great, the W60 is the better one of the two I believe the W90 is also decent.

here is a review off the W90 link

I'd go for the w60 or 90 but not the 80.
I've got the w60 and tried the others, the w80 isnt that good at all.
Though the w90 is pretty amazing

I have a W60 - I was going to buy then heard that the W80 was imminent so waited. Reviews and testing showed the W60 has superior image quality even though it is just 10Mp compared to 12Mp. So, I then went for a W60 at a reduced price!

Waterproofing is excellent on both models.

I have a W60 and it's great.
It's now had two holidays at the seaside and enjoyed them thoroughly.
It's not averse to working well on land and can even be used for infra-red photography as well....
