Vivitar 105mm Series 1 - Dilemma

A bit of advice needed....

Just bought a Mint Vivitar 105mm Series 1 Macro from someone in the US for 230GBP inc postage. I say mint - it is (boxed as new with manual and everything)...apart from I've discovered a fault.
The stopdown mechanism jams occasionally - which renders it useless unless you reset it by removing it from the body.

So I can either return it but that incurs postage fees and paypal fees to around £30-40. Or the seller might agree to pay for repair for £80 inc pp.

Any advice? Should I get it repaired or simply return it and wait until a UK one turns up?

I can't help with your decision but surely as the buyer you don't incur Paypal fees.

You're right I shouldn't...but in paypal you pay the fee to "receive" the money.

If he processes the payment as a refund then you will not incur any fees.
You may lose some on the exchange rate plus Paypal will charge to convert it back to stirling.

I can give you the address and email of someone who repaired some old macro lenses for me, he was reasonably priced as well.
