What do you mean 'freeze on the sd card' ??
Do you mean the video freezes on the LCD while you are recording? Or while you are playing back?
Are you playing back in the camera, or on your computer via a card reader?

Your files will be limited to the 4gb limit inherent to the FAT32 file-system/Movie JPEG codec used on the K5, so, are you hitting a 'technical' limit on recording length/time or is it a fault with the camera?
I think the 4gb file limit equates to around 5 mins of recording time in best video quality?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The image momentarily freezes on playback on the computer via the card reader, then catches up and continues to play... following your post, I played it back on the camera and was relived to see it plays just fine. So it is obviously a communication issue between the card/file type and the laptop (?) I copied the file off the card onto the desktop and played it through Windows Media Player and another video player; same problem! Then I converted the file from .AVI to mp4. and it plays perfectly.
Can't say that I properly understand the issue, but at least I know the way round it and thought I'd share.

If your card reader is USB1, then this won't be fast enough to play from the card reader. Copy it to your computer first.
Second, which media player are you using? Some players don't handle Pentax's .MOV container as as well as others. I use MPC and Splayer without any problems, neither need external codecs.

I'm guessing the.mp4 was quite a bit smaller in file size to the.avi? Apart from the already suggested USB speed problem, could it be that your computer hasn't got the required performance generally to cope with large video files .... As Steve said, to be sure you need to make a copy onto the computer hard drive and play the file from there. Let us know how you get on.

Ah yes, the K-5 still used Movie Jpeg in an .avi container.

I recently started using the video on my K5 more regularly and have come across this problem: The video image tends to randomly freeze on the sd card. I thought it might be a speed issue with the card (SanDisk SDHC 8 Gig Rated speed 2) but having purchased and tried to following 2 cards, the problem persists: HamaMicro sdHc 8gig, peed rating 10 and SanDisk Extereme sdhc rating 10 -45 mb/s.
I am puzzled. Can this be a problem with the camera itself? sincerely hope not!
I'll be grateful for your thoughts
