Victorian Goldfields Railways

The central Vic goldfields were well serviced by a rail network in the mid / late 19th and early to mid 20th centuries.

Some samples from Maldon, where the VGR runs a 15 km tourist railway to Castlemaine, using the old rolling stock and engines.

not too keen on the first one, its a bit ...erm...abstract..., but I love the rest!
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

That is a very good set, apart from the first one. That could be because I don't get what it is about.

Like the third one, easily the best for me. Excellent desaturation treatment, and interesting lines and shadows!

I'm with Tim number 3 is the best but even so it's a bit muddled with that busy background which is a pity.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Richard & Barrie - the first is along the edge of the platform, while I was standing on the track.

Mike - too true - I'd also have preferred the bokeh to have been better. As it was, the FA50 was at f2.

Phil - mostly the FA50 on the Kx, some with the 16-45 or 50-135 on the K10. The latter will start appearing in shots I'll post in future 'Goldfields' series.

Not that it is worth anything on account of it, but the lantern shot was indoors in the rather gloomy locomotive workshop, so I used 1600 to keep the shutter speed manageable.

Thanks again.

Thanks Gareth, see what you mean. Caught between losing it and catching the stencils, means that cloning would likely be the only option apart from a black vignette.

A super set (no surprise to hear that from me!) I'd love a few hours there with a relaible supply of southern light.

I love the shot of the wheels and motion. I like the sepia shots of the carriage and the running lamp. The bind weed contrasts really well with the iron wheels.
Best wishes,

Andrew
