Very good BJP K7 review

Sorry if this has already been mentioned in any other thread, but this week's British Journal of Photography's review of the K7 comes to very favourable conclusions. It's nice to read a magazine that sees a piece of equipment as a tool to do a job, rather than one that is fixated on fitting every camera into some kind of "hierarchy of cameras" like a lot of the rubbish monthly magazines are.

The review is by no means comprehensive when it comes to the K7's features, but it does also mention that Pentax have already produced "a number of excellent digital SLRs". And this is from a trade journal aimed at those in the photographic industry.

The magazine also reviews the 35mm f/2.8 macro, which gets an excellent report too.

And, as a bonus for any Tom Waits fans, this issue of the BJP contains a full page reproduction of the photograph by Anders Petersen that was used on the cover of Rain Dogs.

Today I took my son and friends to the new Snow Centre at St Albans (indoor ski dome with real snow) for his birthday and couldn't help thinking how nice it would be to take the K7 up a mountain skiing and snowboarding and how many other DSLRs you would risk with that amount of moisture - not many is my guess. It will be the 'take anywhere camera' of choice for lots of people.

I suspect the K7 will find a wide audience, and many of them will be new to photography. Just a hunch

Sadly, I think the price will be a deterrent to all but experienced and keen photographers.

But it sounds as though plenty of those will be interested.

I would agree, except for those people who are particularly looking for an 'action' camera they can take with them on trips or until the price comes down to Canon 500D levels perhaps. That camera seems to have dropped by about £300 in its first 30 days if I compare what Jessops told it cost when it first came out and the current street price.

It looks as though the K7 is about £800-900 in Japan and about the same in the USA...good old blighty always takes the hit on pricing. If you're committed to spending £1300+/- on it you might as well combine it with a trip to New York and get the camera and your city break all in for the same price.

BJP is one of the only mags worth reading. It would be handier as a monthly, though.

They liked the K20D as well, favourably comparing the IQ to the top Sony.
