Variations on Magnolia

Mmm. Gorgeous. Being picky, I think I'd prefer the crop of the second, with the colour of the first. The OOF snail and tree are a bit of a distraction.

I can understand, what you mean G. To be honest i left the tree and snail, to see how Dof at f7.1 - f11 would be like. Specially at short distance using 210 mm. I must say....this lens is very, very good

I really like the monochrome version. It would be interesting to see it in colour, but I do like it as it is.

Great mono conversion and very subtle tone that suits it well, I always find it a problem to decide which way to tone when there are so many variations one can apply

Thanks Lilly,
From you I have to take that as a compliment. I useal stick to one setting with toning. Saved as a preset in Lightroom. Basicly i warm up the highlights and midtones and cool down the shadows and darks. After that I balance to two until it feels good to my eye.

Great shots Martin, I like the coloured version best.
I have the SMC F version of this lens but haven't fired it in anger as yet.
Does the A version have the ED element like the F version :
I picked mine up as part of a job lot, it included an F 28-80 with an absolutley mint SFX, Tripod and Bag for 70quid.

Hi Clarky,
The lens doesn't have a ED element. I bought it purely on it's reputation. Every one seems to regard this lens very high. And indeed, I can only second that. Tomorrow after a long wait of two weeks their will be two more beauty's in my possession. The Pentax SMC A 3,5/35-105 mm, and ....(drum roffle ) the Pentax SMC A* 4.0/300mm. I can't wait

Great I can't wait to see some pics with the *300mm and compare them with Chirpy's DA*300mm. Hi Clarky,

I got it from ebay for 710 USD or converted to Pounds: 357 GBP. It is supposed to be in mint condition. I saw an M* 300mm on ebay yesterday who was going beyond 757 USD
and still a couple of days to go. I guess I was lucky

The magnolia's were ready to pop open in my garden. Took a couple of shots with my ''new'' toy. The Pentax SMC A 4.0/70-210mm.
And a monochrome version:
C & C welcome as always
Martin.
