Using K-7 with CS3 query

I have just purchased a K-7. Could anyone tell me if it is compatible with CS3? Will I be able to load photos straight into CS3 as I do with my K-10D? Thanks for any help. Sandy

I presume you mean as regards RAW files, as the JPEGs will not be a problem.

There will be an Adobe update to accomodate the K7, but I don't know whether or not it has happened yet.

Adobe recently updated the raw profiles HERE to include the K-7.
Not sure if they will work with CS3 though as I dont use it.

Probable not since CS3 supports up to camera raw 4 and the new software work with 5.

You can get Adobe DNG converter, CS3 should open DNG without a problem.

Surely the K-7 can shoot dng raw files. Thats what I had to do with the K20 when I first got it.

Fair comment, it's only a question if you decide you want to shoot PEF.

no but you can use Adobe DNG converter to convert the PEF to DNG with the computer and those have even smaller file-size then PEF

okay it's one step extra but it size disk space and you can shoot more photos

Actually, and this is personal of course I found another advantage for using DNG's instead of PEF's.
Besides the smaller size all the image data (editing and meta data) are stored inside the dng file instead of a separate xmp sidecar file.

So since I have L.R. 2.4 I import the PEF files and directly convert them to DNG's.

After I process a imported dng in L.R. and open the DNG afterwards in say Elements or CS it opens with all the edits in ACR.
It may not sound like much use to some, but for me I like that.

Adobe 5.4 will only work with CS4 and Lightroom as said above shoot DNG.

The average size of DNG on K-7 is about 2/3 that on K20D.

We know the K20D was uncompressed DNG so I susspect that K-7 is storing compressed DNG - this may already be smaller than the PEF.

PEF was 1/2 to 2/3 of the file size of the DNG that the camera makes, still I would compress them by the computer when uploading since it saves space. When you've 10520 photos on your pc every mb less per photo is a lot in the end.

Now that's the kind of firmware change I would like to see incorporated into the K10/20D models. The K20D is still current after all.
