Go pro is made for this kind of thing and a lot cheaper than a k-01

Thanks, I'm well aware of that. However, a Go-pro will not give me large prints I can sell or enable me to do aerial shots for clients...
I'm looking at quite a large drone, so a K-01 will not be a vast percentage of the outlay.

Well as far as I know there is nothing in the recent Pentax range that can do what you want out of the box.
The new go pro Hero 3 Black edition has a 12 megapixel sensor which I would have thought would have been sufficient for your needs. I spoke to a guy who was using a drone at Global Gathering this year and he normally shoots Nikon D4 etc and he said the new GoPros where the best for the job. Particularly with the iphone / ipad app which has a range of 600 feet.

I seriously doubt that a go-pro would give decent 30 inch prints. Plus I want to use my IR camera with it too. I was wondering if I could mod PK Tether to work wirelessly. Also I am looking for half a mile or more range.
I will probably get a go-pro with it, but mainly for navigating it.

Hmm could be a toughy that, the guy i saw his shots where being used for a double spread in a magazine.
Half a mile range is going to need some serious kit, far beyond wifi to transmit and tether a camera to control it, i dont know what the solution would be for that...

The US regime controls drones to shoot things from 6,000 miles away. Perhaps give them a call and see how they do it

I was working at a music festival a few years ago and got talking to a guy with a Drone who was doing crowd management and security work with it .
It had a range that could cover the whole site maybe 6 square miles the image quality was very good and you could pan the camera from side to side and up and down ,It was a nice looking very well made piece of kit with four carbon fibre rotors mounted in a elliptical frame ... instantly I wanted one... then he told me how much 40k...jeff....
