Got fed up waiting for SRS to get refurbs in, so bought used DL2 on ebay.
Its great, but came without software disc or instruction book. Downloaded latter, but where can I get software? I should also be grateful if somebody could tell me how to see how many shutter actuations there have been.
Thanks.

Software upgrades are available from Pentax, but you need to have Pentax software in the first place to upgrade. I don't think this normally available anywhere to buy or download.

It's not essential as other programs are available for both image viewing (eg Irfanview) and RAW conversion (eg Silkypix), but if you want a copy on CD, I can send one to you cheaply*. This offer is to any forum contributer. PM me if interested. It will be a copy of Pentax Browser and Lab that was supplied for the K10D. This works with all Pentax dSLRs.

Pentax Browser is quite handy actually, for viewing images with Exif info - which includes lens model name. I like the way an Exif value changes from black to red if the value changes from one shot to the next. Pentax Lab, though, I'm not a fan of, because of its user interface.

* To UK or Europe: £1.00 by PayPal or cheque or postage stamps.

* To rest of world: £1.30 by PayPal.

Download and install a small program called PhotoMe from www.photome.de/download_en.html

Take a picture with the camera, then open it with PhotoMe and look for "Shutter Count".

Reveals lots of other interesting info as well.

Can you please explain to me what "shutter count" actually is?
I have looked at some of my photos which show a shutter count of 3078.
What does that actually mean?

Thanks

I assume Shutter Count means the total number of times the shutter has been fired since the camera was made.

The count is different for each of my photos with K10D and *ist DS.
