Hello Geoffrey. I'm originally from Milwaukee Wisconsin (now in the Washington DC area), so I give a big wave hello across the ocean and back again.
Still looking to upgrade from K10D to K7 but not yet ready to lay out the cash. Maybe the next model...
Keep at it and don't cut your self too short. Post some pics, ask some questions and keep shooting.
Join the competitions... you may feel out-gunned at the moment, but its a great place to get honest feedback and a constantly changing set of ideas to keep your creative mind active.
Being a beginner is often in the eyes of the beholder... and I've found with many people that their own eyes are often far too critical to give an honest assessment.
Anyway, welcome aboard.

In the last two years, I've been trying to pick up photography after a 30-year hiatus. My sig in another forum notes that I'm working my way up to beginner. Alas, still a fair assessment.
So far, I've stuck to photography incidental to other activities, i.e., air shows, fly-ins, family, and SE England. (My wife and I have done some armchair traveling but our bags and persons somehow end up at Heathrow. Insert Samuel Johnson quote here.)
I picked up a K10 a few years ago and moved, for our most recent holiday, to a K7. I have too much glass and not enough creative instinct and/or time.
For P&S, I've been very happy with a Panasonic TZ7 (ZS-3 to Americans). And yes, I do wander streets with one on my back and the other on my belt.
Thanks to you and the moderators for this forum!
