Upgrading firmware

Try inserting a fresh sd card into your computer, and download the firmware straight on to the card. Once you have done so, insert this card into your camera whilst it is switched off. Once the card is in place and the cover closed, switch the camera on. Hopefully, you should now see the firmware updating via the cameras lcd screen.

Have tried this Steve and also tried downloading through the camera. the firmware is copied to the card ok by both methods but when I turn the camera on, while holding down the 'menu' button' as described in the readme file, it just comes up with the old version number and nothing else.

I'm assuming you unzipped the files first. Load the card containing the update into your computer, and extract the files in the normal manner. once you can see the following 2 files:
README.TXT
Fwdc206b.bin
in UNZIPPED FORMAT, delete the zip files completely. Now, reinstall the sd card to your camera. Now, turn the camera on (whispering "hello sexy!" may get the camera a little excited, but it wont turn it on!! ), and hopefully the .bin file will install to the camera.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULLY-CHARGED BATTERY BEFORE RUNNING THIS.

Thank you folks, particularly Steve, who took the time and trouble to contact me privately to offer help to an old codger who doesn't understand computers, but also to you Mike for pointing me in the right direction.
I'm glad to say that the problem has now been resolved and my camera is bang up to date.
Thanks.

The way that has always worked for me is to delete absolutely everything, folders and all, from the card and then put the unzipped BIN file on the card so it is the only thing on the card. Put the card in the camera and close the compartment door, now hold down the MENU button and switch on the camera .. it should ask you if you wish to update and away you go.

(its a self extracting archive, this talk of unzipping is confusing the issue, double click and hey-presto).
Charge your batteries, read the instructions, read what they said above.
And don't interrupt it once it's started

Hi James
All sounds very complicated, I would be inclined to leave well alone, and get a professional camera technician to carry out the update for you. Its a case of every man to his own trade.
The alternative, a very expensive paper weight.
Take care.

To be fair that's not what you said in your original post. [/quote[quote:3496ace15f="steven9761"]I'm assuming you unzipped the files first.
Not so easy when you are on the company pc, and unable to browse the actual files though.

I have had my k-x for just over a year now and have tried, unsuccessfully, to upgrade the firmware from the original version, 1.00, to the latest 1.02 version. I have followed all instructions on the website to the letter but my camers refuses to take the new firmware on board. Has anyone else had this experience and, if so, did they find a solution to the problem?
