It seems the latest Logitech software is no better than the earlier stuff Still no "Page Down" strangely there is a "Page Up" so I could look through the photos backwards That was also in the previous version. PD and PU are used in all sorts of programs such as Adobe Reader.

I also use the Task bar to launch all the programs I use in XP but the the one in Win 7 with the large Mattel Toy type Icons isn't going to allow many quick launches, it keeps disappearing anyway

Sigh... its intuitive, but obviously not enough... Right-click on the TaskBar and look at the Properties... Untick "Auto Hide"...

If you've got the Aero Desktop enabled in combination with your favourite programs Pinned to the TaskBar, you'll never want to touch XP again...

For an OS that's 10 years old quite unbelievable that they are still fixing bugs. They should pay us for the time spent watching the updates being done

Operating Systems are always under attack from new threats, so maybe we should be thinking that it's a good thing that Microsoft are still supporting xp. Support for xp has been considerably extended, even though we have Vista and now Windows 7 that have superceded it.

If you don't want the updates, you can switch them off, but your computer may be at risk.

Isn't it always on-top then. If you search the net there have been a lot of complaints that the taskbar has been changed when no one wanted it changing. Did Ms ask anybody if they wanted this feature... unlikely. Did you notice it was different.... seems not

This seems to be the fix link only 8 pages so they may have fixed it. I only use Win 7 for backups now.

This must be a right pain for people who work very fast with a mouse all over the screen such as Cad Technicians when they want to SNAP to a line at the bottom of the screen and the taskbar pops up and blocks their view. or even for gamers.

Just checked MS haven't fixed it so I downloaded the small EXE that you can either put on the Desktop and launch each time you want to use it or put it in your Startup Folder so it launches every time....... WOW! Now it seems like "Windows 8" The taskbar behaves exactly as it did in ALL! previous versions of Windows....... Now I expect a 100MB update to disable it because it lets Martians take control

I think you guys are talking about the EU's decision to force Microsoft to offer an assortment of browsers. They have to give us a box to choose a browser if we want it and in the process the tray icon for IE8 disappears.

You can restore it by going to the start menu, right clicking on the IE8 programme in All Programs and selecting the option Pin to Task Bar.

Not complicated, and certainly not 8 pages!

no idea what you are on about Algi - every single Win 7 computer I've used (a lot) is NOT set to Auto-Hide the task bar by default, its always present (unless full-screen, e.g. ...playing a game... ) - all I can think is that you turned that (annoying) feature on at some stage, and are now ranting about Microsoft as a result of your own choice...

Incidentally, the same feature is available in WinXP, its nothing new.

Since the power supply crapped out on my custom PC, I have been using an ACER 5738ZG.

It runs Windows 7 no probs, updates on shut down, installs them on start up.

AVG is running fine, light room runs fine, photoshop runs fine.

Yes I used to get fed up with update issues with XP Pro, but since I'm using Windows 7, I have no complaints.
BTW, I'm running 64 bit progs.

When I get around to a rebuild(new power supply), I'm seriously thinking of formatting my Raptor, and my other SATA HDD's, and going for Windows 7 on both my notebook and my desktop PC.
It is a far better and much more stable O/S!

Kindest regards,
Peter.

Ha! Ha! Flossie, your supposed to read the previous post before replying. It's well documented on the NET that the equivalent feature to "disable taskbar always on top" available in all previous versions of Windows (since Win95)has been left out of Win 7 and the link provides a fix. It patches Explorer in memory and needs re-writing every time Explorer gets changed.

The author mentions:

As for support, I'll try to update it as time permits, if/when explorer is updated. Hopefully MS fixes this sooner rather than later, so this app won't be needed.

Found a kludge that works The Logitech SetPoint software lets you assign any keyboard keys to any button. So just a case of assigning PD and PU to buttons 3 and 4 I wish it had a 5th button that I could assign the ESC key to? Maybe press 2 buttons at once which gives scroll on XP?
