Underwater Macro

Does anyone have any suggestions for photographing small tropical fish in a tank ?

The main issues are lack of light and obtaining focus.

The one below is Iso 400, 1/125sec and f 2.8 using a Sigma macro.

It was taken through glass (without a polarising filter).

The water in the tank is quite fast moving and the fish are very fast moving.

A lot more light would be a good starting point, but I do not think that the owners of the fish would appreciate me 'blasting' them with a flashgun or two !

That is quite good, can't see much motion blur nor reflections. Seems there was quite a lot of light!

Normally indoors without a flash I'm shooting at ISO1600 F2.8 and 1/30!!! Which is rather poor I must add.

You could put on of your DA* lenses on the K10D/K20D and take the photos directly in the water

By fish tank standards it is well lit and it is almost new.

But I would like to use something other than F2.8, so I guess cranking up the Iso is one way.

Hmmmmm !

Focussing is quite an issue.

Manual focus is hopeless - everything happens too quickly.

On autofocus it moves the lens barrel in and out really quickly as it switches from near fish to far fish to fish tank side to something beyond the fish tank side !

I think he was talking about the weather sealing. I wouldn't dream of putting mine underwater though!

Some one on here put theirs under the shower - I'm sure it would be fine

Sorry that I can't help with suggestions, though

Well my shower here is high pressure. Not going to risk that. Rain in the Highlands with 60mph winds on the other hand is just my sort of thing. May get to test that come September.
