The rule was introduced to stop defenders stepping out of play to create an offside. The fact that the defender was lying injured after a clash with his own goalie didn't matter - defenders can't go out of play. I think the ref did very well with that to be honest. he seemed to be a good ref all round from what i saw - but what do I know?
I have the impression you know more about the game than the former English referee who stated otherwise, and some so called Belgium tv commentators.
But hey, you live in Holland ,don't you
The Uefa head ref stated that this was the rule and the Swede ref was quite right in his judgement. Even the Beeb had to concede it was a legal goal.

But exactly how many times have Holland won? (Answer - only once)

How many times have Holland won the World Cup? (A - never)

How many times have Holland lost to the Germans in major competitions? (A - even more times than England have)

Not laughing now are we

But at least the Dutch have got through to major competitions to lose to the Germans

Don't forget I'm (half) English btw Other half is Welsh so it's no wonder I'm not much of a football fan is it?

Actually Reuben is a derivation from Ruben. Which means : ''Look a son'', in Hebrew.

Yes, Reuben is Hebrew rather than Dutch

I was thinking more along the lines of....

Peter Paul Rubens (June 28, 1577 – May 30, 1640) was a prolific seventeenth-century Flemish Baroque painter

And while having a Wiki moment came along this too..

Paul Reubens, actor and comedian known professionally for his character Pee-wee Herman

and that is two down...
4-1 against the French
In all honesty I thought that the Dutch team could go home after the first three matches but everyone is staring in disbelief on what has happened until now...

We did it again. Something beautiful is happening in the Alps.
But still a long way to go, so lets stay focussed.

It was an interesting game, yesterday...

Me too, I was in believe that the Dutch would have a though time in the 'poule of death'. But now, I'm thinking of the final for them. Anything short of that will be a disappointment...
Cheers! Marc

Since we didn't qualify, I will have to stick with my neighbours - after all the Swedes did rather well against Italy.

Well, I hate to admit it. But the best team did win tonight.
And a very deserved win, I might say. To bad, but a big compliment for Hiddink and his Russian team.

The best team won yesterday...
I don't know what happened to the Dutch team but they sure as hell didn't play football yesterday

Ah well, Russia is a little Dutch with, according to some people, the best coach in the world, Guus Hiddink being Dutch

Once again it was a classic example of an international team who were unable to adapt their tactics to the opposition. The Dutch are superb on the break, but against a team who kept their defence sitting deep that tactic was nullified. They should have tried to suck the Russians into their own half to leave space behind. If someone plays the Russians that way they will win, 'cos the Russians need 5 chances to convert 1, and they have a poor defence which gets out of position too easily. Spain made them look poor.

The one thing that has always confused me is which part of Europe does Russia come from?
