Tulips

A couple of the photos I took on Sunday in the tulip fields of the Noord-oost Polder. The light was very harsh so they are not that brilliant, but they are colourful

The top photo (a panorama of only two shots) was taken with the 50-135 the rest with the Pentax 17-70.

Very Nice!... Now I know where they fill up them big vans that deliver flowers to the shops in the UK. Amazed that the panorama software could tell which tulips to cut on... they all look the same to me

No 3 is especially nice. What do you think of a crop that turns it into a letterbox shape - just above where there are gaps in the tulips in the foreground. I think that the horizontal stripes offset by the vertical trees makes quite a striking graphic image. It might look good in monochrome as well.

I take it you grow tulips over there

I think the third shot is a cracker though I'd be tempted to crop the right slightly so the tall trees go right across the image.



It might for someone whos colour blind

Whenever I try to take photos of large numbers of flowers I am not very happy with the results, I think that they overwhelm my eyes/brain so it's number 4 for me.

That reminds me of a piece I saw on British TV once, claiming that the best tulips were grown in.... Britain, of course
No, that wasn't on April 1st and I seem to remember that it was on the Beeb. They were dead serious

So while the images are great, I suspect you sneaked over to that island, Britain, and got your shots there

I guess that you really missed some hills or mountains nearby to get a bird's eye view. Maybe you could talk a wind generator service technician to take you up one of the turbines...

Thankyou for the comments everyone. John I will try that crop you suggested.

We were about 4.5 metres below sea level so hills are very thin on the ground for a better view. I did consider going on the dike but it was difficult to get to where the best bulb fields are.

Ralf, Lincolnshire has lots of bulb fields - all owned by Dutchmen of course .

Lovely shots. The second one is my favourite for some reason. I think the bits of yellow in the foreground tulips contrast well with the "sea" of yellow further back.

We have some pretty tulips up in the garden at the moment, the black ones are especially distinguished. Being half Dutch myself, I have a soft spot for the tulip.

Good set. #4 is great - red is my favorite color!

The harsh light works in your favor here, creating those graphic shadows. Might crop a bit off the top and right?
