Trying something different

Another attempt to step out of my comfort zone and produce something abstract. This is a neon light which my wife and most other Irish Catholics have in their houses.

Any thoughts appreciated.

OK.....
It's to noisy, the main subject is centre placed which isn't exactly exciting, The glow around the cross is actually worth something but the purple blob (over)saturation is hurting my eyes.

But....look at it this way....You stepped out of your comfort zone. Well done.
Now step back in and do your usual good/excellent stuff.

I hope you realise all the above is meant to be as light hearted and non offensive as possible.
Best regards,

Martin.

I agree with most of what Martin says.

With the exception of stepping back into your comfort zone. I'd stick with this subject until you can make it work. (IMHO)
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

I think it has potential but you need to do something about the noise. I also think an off-centre composition would be an improvement.

Leaving technical aspects to one side, I think this is quite a powerful and thoughtful image. It reads a bit like a film poster to me, though what genre of film, I of course, couldn't say!

Interesting work.

Well done.

Thanks for the replies. it was an interesting exercise for me anyway as the bulb defeated auto anything on the camera and I found lots of buttons and modes I had never used before (my K20 is pretty much sized on Av). It also became apparent that what the camera sees is quite different from what the eye sees.

I am curious about the granularity - I tried ISO 100 - 1600 with little change.

Malo I think I deserved your comment - clicky.

I had completely forgotten about that one. Thanks for reminding me.
On retrospect.....Yes, you deserved it.

(I'm glad you recognised the large pinch of salt drenched in my comment)

Mea culpa Martin.

I do however think you were a little harsh on my reply to the link - I was nearly 1000 miles away, so my shooting wasn't that bad
