Stacy Lady in the studio today definatly need to work on my studio stuff but things are coming along nicely i think

My favourite out of all of them is probably No.2
The lighting is ok, could have been a tad brighter as in my opinion its a bit dark on her back.

Of course this is just my opinion, others may disagree.

No.1 You are losing the light at her feet and although its not shadowy it's too dark. Plus the angle is not flattering for anyone.

No.3 is a very unflattering pose the mouth looks like she is ready to say something, like something is forming on her lips and ready to splurt out.

No.4 looks odd. Have you tried to resize the image as she looks flattened, turning her into a squat, weird shaped lady. Also the right arm seems to be floating. Her face seems to be over exposed, like she is standing to close to the flash and has been blasted.

Feeb, as I say, this is only my opinion but as I am a portrait photographer and see this work daily, well I thought I would offer some help.
You have the lighting almost spot on, just needs to be either angled differently or increased in power.
Keep up with the great work and I hope to see more of it soon

Hiya Paul and thank you for your positive and constructive critisim, I totally agree i have an awful lot to learn, i did a whole shoot with good and bad results, i agree with all the comments you made barr the ones about composition, in my line of work i deal with jugglers, faerys, pixies and the like, the idea it to form a style where i can capture that sort of playful silliness, which i think dispite some lighting faults, has come across very well

We didnt have the easiest ride (as i suppose is the case when you are new at something) and i did over expose alot of the shots, problem with that, is i had to then fix them in RAW (only a bit over you see) and that created problems with the background and a few dark bits as you mentioned.

We have big reels at college that we put on the wall - black, white and a few other colours and because its the end of the year, the reels get shorter and shorter from students and their models trampling on them and ripping them (how annoying!) So yeah we only had limited space to work with unfortunatly and i found it hard to work in such a small space Above all i have learned LOADS from doing it and just like this studio shoot is better than previous ones, the next one will be better again

I know the backgrounds you are talking about as they had them when I was at college as well and that was 15 years ago.

My business partner kept using them until I advised her to buy the lastolite pop up background where you shove the flash heads inside. Much better and the lighting is spot on.

The only one that doesn't look right to me, and taking into account what you said about youor line of work, is the bottom image. That looks just too odd compared to the other images. It looks like something big has sat on her and squished her into a weird shape....but of course if that's what you want her to look like then thats cool.

Oh Oh, funky pop up background sounds great, i might just have a winge to Ian and see if he will get us one - your right about the last image, its been distorted by the resizing for web thingy magigy that i do, might have a look tomorrow about making it a bit less weird but i actually quite like it when combined with the Siren prints watermark being sort of pushed up by Stacy - it makes me laugh it does - but yes not technically good, i will fix it if i have time but am currently up to my arms in printers and developer trying to get everything ready for my end of year folio... so it may take me a while
