Transportation of equipment.

I'm after some tips and advice with regards to sending my photographic kit to Australia.
I'm emigrating to Perth WA in a few weeks time and will be sending my gear along with the rest of our belongings in a 20ft shipping container. Being as the container will be out at sea for 6 or 7 weeks I assume its going to be quite a moist atmosphere.

I will be taking my k5 and a couple of lenses with me as hand luggage on the plane.
I'm a bit worried about moisture getting into the rest of the kit. Is there anything in addition to lining the lens case with silica gel that I can try?

Silica gel it to death and pop in them vacuum bag thingy-b-jigs from argos probably, I put woolies there originally

I appreciate you might be stuck with putting it in the container, but I'd strongly recommend you look for another solution. I presume you have checked, but some airlines may offer more hold baggage allowances for people emigrating.

If not I'd consider putting it in Peli cases (depends how much kit I suppose): link or similar and try to sell on the cases when they get there if necessary.

To meet shipping and insurance requirements, sea containers are graded. It is unlikely that your possessions would be shipped lower than grade C.

I have to have belongings and equipment shipped in containers and have yet to encounter any moisture or ingress issues.

How do Pentax and other ship their cameras and lenses from place of manufacture to the world wide markets?

In shipping containers ... and just look at the amount of silica gel in the box that arrives.
