Wonderful overall. Quite a bit of purple fringing wide open but sharp as a knife by f/2.4. Very pretty bokeh. Makes for a nice portrait lens even with a crop factor (just slightly longer than usual). Really wish it had Quick-Shift. Glad it has an aperture ring. Takes 49mm filters (yay! ). Lovely manual focus damping for an AF lens (ie. still not as good as a proper manual lens but closer than most). Perfect size to balance the camera and provide a nice tactile experience ("Goldilocks" dimensions). Attracts curious double-take reactions in other-brand camera users and big grins from fellow Pentaxians.

You dont get as much lens for your money with the 70mm..lol...I've looked at shots from both lenses and prefer the 77!...It seems to produce such wonderful colour and contrast,a peach of a lens for people study!

Not Pentax and a little longer, but I've been very impressed with the Samyang 85mm so far. It's manual focus but at f1.4 I don't have much trouble getting it right even when the camera struggles to provide the green hexagon due to low light. It's also less than half the price of a 77mm Ltd...
