This land was ravaged by...

While I was walking up St. Catherines Hill yesterday I took a route over Twyford Down, and encountered an object I hadn't seen before or even heard of. Twyford Down is the site where the M3 motorway was cut through the hill amid significant protests in 1991/92. This stone stands on the edge of the cutting above the M3.

This appears to be not so much a memorial to the environmental damage as an indictment of those involved:

Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm.

The original image is very dull indeed due to the lighting and the low-contrast lettering, so I made two versions from the raw file. The sky is simply increased in contrast and rendered in mono, while the stone and terrain uses the Kodalith plugin in Bibble but in colour, then the colour is desaturated a lot. I used a version of the sky one as a mask so I could combine the two images.

C&C welcome - this is the first time I've tried this sort of technique!

I think it's very clever and a great final image with a lot of impact

Nice shot

I will not enter a political debate as whenever I have challenged anyone on a polictical point they usually end up accusing me of not understanding but never seem to be able to offer me an explanantion to right my alleged failure to understand - only policiticans could do that

great shot.

but a little bit too colour popped for me. I would have done some colour selective saturation tweaking though.

Great shot, and nice work! Agree with Smeggy, perhaps the green could be desaturated a bit?

+1 - and perhaps reduce the exposure a tad in the sky?

I like it, the extreme PP works well for me, although I think I agree with the colour comments- a tiny bit more colour in the sky would be good.

I really like what you have done with this shot, although maybe a little too much contrast in the sky for me.

I've also got my eye on this particular lens and it's good to see it in action.
