The View From The Alley

There are lots of alleys (or ginnels if you prefer) where I live. A long term, sporadic project of mine is to photograph both them and the views from them. A burst of enthusiasm this week produced a few more photos. Here are a few of the resulting views from local alleys. All with K3 + Tamron 10-24mm.

Thoughts, comments etc. welcome as usual.

1. Direct Pizza. Guess what they sell...

3. Dodgsons of Dorchester Ltd. An old-style hardware shop, not necessarily the cheapest but they have everything and, most importantly, know everything about it.

These are right up my street! couldn't resist - sorry. Snickets make similar interesting shots too, 'any gate' as they used to say in Yorkshire!

Overall a great idea for a project and interesting, well-captured first set.

I don’t know if it’s because I was looking on a small screen, for my personal taste it’d be great to be able to see a bit more in the shadows. I’m not sure what the best way to do that would be. HDR? Adjusting curves in PP? Nothing too artificial, just a little bit more and for me it would then be spot on. It’s totally a question of personal taste though.

Quite a lot taken over the years but need sorting (and finding!). Depends on getting some enthusiasm for photographic archaeology on the hard drive!

Yes, I've got shots of snickets, too (and a wife whose first language is Yorkshire :wink.

They do look different on my big, calibrated screen (used for photo editing) compared with my tablet screen. I adjusted curves for 1 and 3 so the darkest part of the shadow was black (the light was pretty dark in any case), a lot more looks black on the tablet.

Nice series from a specific perspective.
