Thanks for sharing these Nigel, I'm sure a lot of PUF members will enjoy them every bit as much as I do. I like them all but 1+4 and the final one are outstanding for me.
I don't get to London often enough, not since 2012 when I photographed The Shard as it was nearing completion.
Here's a couple of contrasting Shardies from then.

The mono was shot on my K30 and the sharp end of The Shard on my K5.

Yes, I love that mono one too ... Looks like a hefty bit of polarizing filter going on David? Thanks for joining in the 'shardmania' Glad you liked the pics guys.

But whenever I've attempted it with colour images the outcome is ghastly.

I used to like that deep dark toned sky and almost black windows you can get with a polarizer in colour with the sun at a good angle, but its easy to overdo. Now I don't bother with an actual filter, but use a filter effect in software for a subtle result. But with your mono Shard there David, the quality of using the real filter really comes through. The window reflections are superb! But I imagine that in colour those blues must be overpowering.

Actually this isn't a polarized shot - its solarized, in PS and not with a filter at all. Polarization in colour can be very effective.

Well there ya go, just shows how deceptive things can be nowadays. However its done, if it works well then that's what matters!
