The Secret

It's been a while since I posted a set of images on the Forum, not much chance to get out and about with my cameras due to work and home commitments during the past 2 months. However, I managed to break free for a couple of hours this morning and got up early to catch first light and the mist. These are the result, from a little known location that is magical in these conditions. I hope you like them, comments are encouraged. All are with the K-01 and D-Xenon 12-24 lens, fitted with a Hoya Pro1 Polariser.

Very nice images, David. No doubt someone will say how good the mono shot is, but for me the colour ones have a real atmosphere, creating the feeling that I am actually there.

The best are 1 & 3 for me ... they have a mysterious tone, almost like scenes from a fantasy fairy movie! (I do get to see quite a few fantasy fairy movies, at least in passing )

The last one is nice in a similar vein, but perhaps would be better from a little further forward, or slightly longer focal length?

The sky brightness around the grand house seems to vary, a sort of vignetting effect which looks odd.

Good to see you out with the camera again!

Save Pentax

I notice you are not saying precisely where this is David, and I can understand why. Its an enchanting location and you don't want hordes of togs trampling it to death. Autumn is a perfect season for bringing out the beauty of the area - I wonder what it will be like in other seasons.
The misty subdued autumnal light just make this very special, and you've captured it beautifully. It had to be done in colour; the mono is lovely but it doesn't catch the magic of the other photos.
I'm not picking a favourite, they work as a panel where the whole is even better than the individual images.

Thanks all for the comments, I must admit I really enjoyed taking these shots. Although I only had about 90 minutes before meeting up with the missus for Breakfast, it was 90 minutes well spent and also gave me the chance to use the K-01 for some landscape work. It has proved to be a very capable camera, the equal of my K-5IIs for images like these.

If we get the right type of weather conditions I might publicise the location and organise a trip down there one day this Winter. I'm thinking of cold, crisp weather when you get mist rising from water in the early morning and when there is frost or snow on the ground.

Really like the colours on the bridge and the light on the house. Not, perhaps what is expected of November!

Initially, I wasn't sure about these, David, but the more you look, the more you see, as they say! The light in the house shot is gorgeous, obviously, but the way the colours emerge from the misty gloom in the others is very atmospheric and makes for lovely images. For me, that's why no. 2 doesn't have the same appeal. But the rest I like a lot. It certainly looks like the kind of place that would appeal in different ways at different times of the year and be a rich source of photographic interest.

There's a misty magic to these David... 1 and 2 for me... the framing on no. 2 particularly... and really like what the b&w does in terms of timelessness...
