The one that got away

I guess we all have stories of "the one that got away" on ebay. I spotted an S-M-C Takumar 20mm f/4.5 where the owner said:
Quote:
with Pentax bayonet fitting as used on my K1000 camera... A scarce lens which unfortunately has been forced and the aperture/exposure meter link no longer works. Both rings (f and focus) work smoothly so the lens can be used if you are up to figuring out the exposure...
Peering at it I think it simply had a M42-> PK adaptor attached. Of course the aperture exposure meter link didn't work, it never had one (for the K mount anyway).

Given that I was taking a gamble I bid a moderate amount but was gazumped with two seconds to go by a esniper...

Oh well, no doubt there will be another one along eventually.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I've had a few like that:

Black K2 in minty condition but listed as "spares/repair", went for about £15 after I forgot to put a bid in. It would easily have been worth the price of a professional CLA to get it working properly. I strongly suspected that it just needed new batteries and some attention to the film speed selector.

Missed a winder for a KX or KM motor by a few quid - I don't have the modified camera though, so not a great loss!
