Here is my crappy moon from last night!
It's certainly not crappy. What lens were you using? If it's not long, and optically very good, that might be the best that's achievable, and choosing a smaller size will make the most of a shot that isn't as good as it might be in other circumstances.

Always best to give the EXIF, camera and lens details to make the most sense of pictures like these.

Let me try this again.
I went back to the RAW file and brought it down manipulating it less.
I wonder how this one compares to the first one

You're gonna hate me Amin... that area looks too dark now

It's one of the prominent, distinguishing areas and it is often very light.

But that's definitely the best process of the two.

Mark, you lost me there , which area is too dark now?

Come on, admit it you just want me to stop working on the moon and lock myself in the shed don't you?

Been comparing both the previous one with this and I just like the colours of this one better. But I am curious to know which part do you refer to that is one of the prominet features of the moon that is often very light?

You think you can stretch my patience? You just watch Mark, who is going to be the first one to break here

The old burnt out area now looks a tad dark. I'm being super picky here, but it IS usually quite bright.

I like the 2nd one more In my opinion the fact that it's darker doesn't matter. The greatly increased detail more than makes up for it! Those white highlights are areas of glare, right? Think of it like putting a huge diffuser over the sun

The second is more to my taste, if I remember correctly I took this one at the same time you did yours.

Yes Mike, I think it was even on the same day. We went wild on the moon that evening ha Quite a few of us here in the forum were hunting the moon on that particular evening. I had just acquired the lovely DA*300 and was trying it.

Yours look at the same stage, yup and I remember the tips you gave me that evening when I came in with some poor shots and you advised me to keep it at around 180 shutter speed

PS Amin, earlier today I happened to be reading io9 (a sci-fi blog) and it had a showcase of the winners of the Royal Observatory Astronomy Photographer of the Year awards. Your moon shot (and Mike's, for that matter) rivals that of the winner of the 'Our Solar System' category.

Tim, that's very kind of you to say that. That's quite a boost for my ego . But I think my shot is nowhere as close to some of the forum members moon shots I have seen here . And you have to see Mike-P's arsenal of moon shots he has. Some he managed to get at certain phases of the moon are absolutely stunning.

Mike, dig them out for us come on, it will be easier you uploading them here than us going looking for them on the old threads

Can I just say, it's nice to see Amin outside for once! Thought you'd taken to living in your shed since the incident in the park.

Nice Shot!
