I prefer number 1, but quite like all 3.
If I was picky I'd say that number 3 is too grey. Maybe needs a bit more contrast, but then, I do like my mono to be very black and white..if you get my menaing.

2, 2, 2 Love it.
Looks like you need to get yourself an old Moto Guzzi - you can look at the cylinders all day, and rest your legs on them when you're riding along in the winter

#3 for me too, the same reason as Michal.
Do you know what type of engine this is?
I know it's a multi-row 14 cylinder radial engine but from what manufacture?

Well if you want a totally honest opinion Tim.....
No1 I think the white area in the top left corner ruins the shot, apart from that I think its great, contrast is spot on.
No2 Works better for me in landscape format (rotated anti-clockwise), again I love the contrast.
No3 As Ted say it needs more contrast but unfortunately what spoils it is the out of focus bit at the bottom otherwise this is the best of the bunch.
All in all a good set of though provoking images

Thanks everyone! I think I currently favour number 2, as I also am not too keen on the white backgrounds in numbers 1 and 3. However as with all these things my favourite changes from day to day
I would have liked to get the central hub in number 3 in focus but it was so gloomy in there that I ended up shooting these with a very short DOF (handheld at f1.8 and 1/20sec, but ISO100, forgot to check that . I took about 5 shots of number 3 before I got one without too much camera shake )

Usually I wouldn't have a clue, but in this particular case I actually took a photo of the information pedestal just in case someone asked It is a 14 cylinder 1675hp Bristol Hercules Mk XVI engine.

Yes Barrie the jet engine is a bit simpler but when you connect a propeller or gearbox to it then things also become that complicated.
Most the gearing you see in the front is to slow down the turning speed for the propeller, since the engine turns to fast.
