Seriously - a novel idea, I prefer the colour version. A suggestion if I may; a bit more saturation/ brightness to the rust with a darker background to make them really stand out? Just a thought,

My preference with subjects like these is generally monochrome - but here the gorgeous rust colour enhances the tools beautifully, the shadows give them depth and the variety of types adds to the interest
Please don't think I'm being picky (again) but I think the choice of background may not be the best - to improve the contrast between subject and background a white or light grey material may be better :

I like the blacks in the opening colour image but prefer the lighter rusts in the edited version. Not sure if you use Lightroom but if you do then head over to the HSL panel and select luminance and adjust the orange slider. That should brighten the oranges in the rust and leave the blacks as is.

I like the first two (the reworked version is way too bright for my taste - no mystery left). It took me a moment to realize they were the same image, and I wondered how you had managed to find two sets of the exact same tools, one rusty and one not
