The K?D..What will it be?

Just want to start a dialogue to get your impressions of what a K?D might be like when it comes out. This would be an up scale DSLR and not an entree level camera. It will happen. This we know. But I would love to see who comes closest to the reality when it does happen.

I have said this a few times before but a digital LX would be nice, so we could have a few viewfinder options (still my main bugbear with DSLRs) and a move back to off the film/sensor metering.

But for purely selfish reasons (i.e. financial) I’m in no rush having bought a K10 only three weeks ago.

Matt's referring to a similar thread (see link above), called K10D Wish List, where we posted what we'd like to see on the next release camera.

There were some interesting wishes...

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a camera that focuses from the minimum focusing point all the way out to infinity with a series of images all taken at the same instant through multiple lenses. That way, you could compose the final image yourself with in-focus, out of focus, and way out of focus parts of the image.

Higher flash synch speed is top of my list : I was SO disappointed when Pentax brought out the LX with 1/75th flash synch and even my ME Supers had 1/125th yet the LX was supposed to be a more professional camera ! The Nikon FE2 had 1/250th for example.
Been a member of Pentax Club since the Ron Spillman era! Got COMPUTERISED at last - DIGITISED?
Taken the PLUNGE - BUT FILM STILL RULES !!!

I for one hope they wont push the sensor resolution too hard

Maybe a 10 or 12MP sensor. 12 would be lovely as long as they can keep the noise at K10D levels or lower without resorting to silly levels of NR.

I'd rather see ISO 1600 usable straight from the camera with 3200 as 1600 is now and maybe even 6400 as a weapon of last resort.

Aperture ring support restored (Nikon do it in their high end, why not Pentax?)

Optional split prism focusing screen.

If they could do interchangeable viewfinders, then we could have an optional high magnification finder for those who'd rather have a larger, dimmer image.

Please not a fixed battery grip, I know there are those who think of the grip as a must have accessory which never comes off, but there are also those of us for whom it is a waste of space, weight, time and money.

I just hope that there will be one.

However, live view would be good, maybe with a tiltable screen. Olympus have live view and it must be possible for Pentax to do it. A battery grip that talks to the camera, so that it will switch from one battery to the other as required would also be useful, it seems to me. 12MP is almost compulsory to keep up the craze for more pixels.

A fun accessory, certainly one I would buy would be a gps device that can put the gps info into the EXIF. I know Sony do one, and that would be great to have. Maybe Pentax could build one in to the new model

I believe that the Sony GPS logger will work with any camera, as I dont have one I cant confirm.

A while back I saw a piece of software that combined position data from a GPS unit with the EXIF data. Don't now recall where I saw it. I think it just read the GPS track log and compared the time & date of the photograph and worked it out from there.
