Can you mount K glass with an adapter?

to the sony, yes to the canon, no. the canon is full frame, and expensive....

What I'd like to see is a Pentax product that does both photos and video at the professional level... period..
That canon is going to be the way ALL serious cameras come in the future.... a consumer version of that camera, will kill d-slrs in the market place... if canon or sony release something like that in the $1200.00 range Pentax will take a hit that they might never recover from in the market place... it isn't about the existing Pentax shooters... it is all the new buyers that have never shot a slr or d-slr that will find this new type of imaging device superior to d-slrs and throw thier money at those systems....

it will do everything a d-slr will do, plus everything a video camera will do, and be a bargian since you only have to buy one body....

Isn't the Canon eos mount? In which case I'm fairly sure it will take K glass. People modify the mirrors on their FF DSLRs to take Pentax lenses without the mirror hitting the lens, so using them with this beast should be a doddle.

There's a list somewhere of what lenses work with Canon's.
Ricehigh also has some Pentax/Canon info.
Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber

Pentax K-1 + K-5 and some other stuff

What I find interesting is that Canon has developed BOTH the video cam form factor and a d-slr form factor for this camera.
As a shooter that uses both videocameras and Dslrs when shooting projects... I must say the video cam form factor is easier to work with.... regardless of wether you're shooting video or stills...
Zacuto has already released a line of expensive add-ons for people looking to shoot video with the d-slr version... but what add-ons does the video cam version require to shoot stills? nada, none, zip.... so which is the better buy?

I'm curious to see which they sell more of... I think the market place will be the deciding factor....

The videocam style has been available for stills before from Rollei, Chinon and others, but has never proved popular with stills photographers.

This new camera seems to offer only 1920x1080 resolution, which just isn't enough for stills. Although it may well take DSLR lenses, it's not really a substitute for a DSLR camera.

early reports are it is creating 8mp stills off a Foveon type sensor... meaning there are 4 seperate light receptors per pixel site (red, blue and two green) so the color depth is high and a 12 stop dynamic range... I suspect the image resolution for stills will compare favorably with a lot of other d-slrs.... at least as good as my k10...
too early to tell though... I'm sure that since there is simultanious developement of slr and video cam models the same sensor MUST produce decent stills...
Besides, I'd rather join my cat at the vet for neutering than buy a canon... I just want to be able to buy something like that from Pentax!

2k video is fine, no need go for 4k...
long recording times, meaning a heat sink for cooling...
full manual control...
and the ability to record stills and video simultaniously to seperate cards...
a nice oled evf and articulated touch screen
all with the guts and sensor from a k5

The Foveon style sensors try to convince us that their resolution is 3x the value for R, G and B but it isn't. The number of pixels remains as it is and that limits severely the print size. It also gives an odd colour rendition which many people don't like too much.

also overpriced....

also of interest is the new line of video specific lenses... a pentax evf video model that takes the standard k-mount would already have a nice line of lenses for existing lenses, and open the door for pentax to introduce a line of "V" lenses that are video optomized.... for shooters that like video as much as stills..

I think that probably video shooters are an afterthought in the minds of the designers, but it must be a huge market in its own right.

Having said that, most users find a clip on their compacts or iPhones perfectly adequate for a slot on Facebook or YouTube and that's maybe where the bulk of the casual market is.

Hollywood is dead baby.... indie film makers, and direct to consumer downloads are the future of BOTH television, and movie making. The serious shooters want large sensors, low light abilities (to save on lighting expenses) pro audio and high quality glass.... anybody that wants to sell high end cameras needs to look a t serving both pro video and pro still quality... what wedding photographer out there will be offering EITHER photos or videos, when the brides are demanding BOTH?

give it a few years...

here is an interesting look behind filming the Hobbit with RED cams..peter jackson...

The RED system is more affordable than traditional hollywood pro cameras...
An indie film maker could very easily create stunning works with a k-5 sized camera... and some Pentax lenses on an achievable budget... we really aren't that far behind hollywood in terms of filmmaking gear, the prosumer market is progressing faster do to lower prices and higher sales.... Ricoh/Pentax would sell a lot of lenses and bodies if they give the video shooters equal thought to the still photographers in future camera models...

just like the Wedding market is saturated with tonnes of "I have a nice camera, therefore I'm a pro, let me shoot your wedding for table scraps and five bucks" photographers buying cameras, so too will major motion film making get swamped with "I have a nice camera, let's film a movie for table scraps and five bucks" film makers....

and major studios will find amateurs coming out from everywhere to take a bite of thier profits.. and they will all be buying cameras from somebody...why not Pentax?

see the part where they're talking about 128 gig cards?
Comment Image

48 cameras priced at $1200.00 ? alot cheaper than the RED. Pro video at $1200.00 or less each are coming.. from Canon, Nikon and Panasonic... and hopefully Ricoh will push Pentax to do more serious video.
