Thanks for the comments - I've enjoyed using portrait lens with extension tubes ever since I saw some photos on the US forum by Peter Jonkman (Asahiflex) - there's a difference look compared to a true macro lens (partly the bokeh I guess) and the faster aperture allows for lower light use and even thinner DOF.

Yes, definitely something different. I enjoy the recognizable-yet-not-exactly character such combinations often yield, plus the field of view can be interesting (I've been experimenting 12mm tubes on 28mm lenses on apsc, interesting indeed). 2 & 3 have my preference.

It'll be the D-FA* 50/1.4 which is wide open by default. No aperture lever to help stop it down!
