The Coast at Studland

Here is a different sequence of Dorset coastal images than the recent ones, this time not focussing on the rock formations, but rather the beaches themselves. There are three main beaches on the National Trusts's Studland estate, known as Shell Bay (near to the mouth of Poole Harbour, more open and with wide sandy stretches), Middle and Knoll Beaches (tightly packed against the cliffs with a narrow rocky shore and then soft sand - they are divided by a rocky outcrop in between which can be walked around at the lower tide times).

The feature in this area is the golden rock faces, and dense tropical looking ancient forest that extends right near the waterline. All in all it adds up to an amazingly rewarding place to visit both for photography & the families beachy splish & splash!

All shots with the K7 and lenses as described - the 14mm comes into its own in this environment, but I also found the DA 18-55 AL WR very useful.

Nigel, I would be pleased if I had captured any of these compositions. The colours are mostly as I like them, but I think I would slightly reduce the red in 5, 6 and 8. Although, of course, I realise that the scenes might have had the appearance shown here at the time you shot them.

Nigel, the foreground interest in 4,7,8 raise these above the rest for me

I do like the yellows in 6 (well spotted) but not so sure on the composition

Thankyou Philip and Alan I'll have a look at the red saturation in some and reduce it a bit, it may have come up a bit too much in spots.

Alan I'm always trying to get that foreground interest in for you, well, without scratching the front of my lens I might try a few different crops on that one with the yellow bucket and boat. Thanks again guys for your feedback.

I've had a look again at No 6 here, with the yellow 'features', as Alan raised the issue of the composition, so here's a couple of alternative crops ... first one is a bit tighter and the 2nd is a total rethink with a square shape. Would like to know what you all think works best

Still don't work for me Nigel. If you'd moved to the right, you could have got the boat against the horizon. Even if it obscured the cliffs in the distance. Think that would have been better

I know, you're right ... It may have to be ' the one that got away' ... If I remember rightly I was prevented from moving to the right by the presence of a few people who I didn't want to include ... Never mind, next year ....

A pleasing series, Nigel. Perhaps a bit bright and saturated for my taste but very consumer friendly.
