The artist

Iknow the artist, and feel that the mood/atmosphere has been captured.
But I realise that in my inexperience I have made a dogs dinner of the composition. I would welcome comments please.
I'm not used to posting photos but I'll give it a go.

I like it. Lots of space with the ordered patterns of the brick and wood. The ordered space vs the clutter of the art. Artist looking straight at the camera. It looks like he's just hung the work and is thinking about what's next, preview? sales? Certainly not a dog's dinner.

My only suggestion would be to perhaps tinker with the white balance, it seems slightly yellowish (might be the way it was) and also to tweak the brightness up a notch.
Lurking is shirking.!

I like it : you have captured the mood you wanted and I love the tones in the brick and wooden floor. As you mention composition I think it would be better showing all of the table and three of the paintings. However it's a nice shot as it is and certainly no dogs dinner

ha ha, Chris. Not sure now. A notch back the other way? (leave the brain to do the rest) The brick mortar and art pattern sharpness seem more pleasing but the bluish tint to the RHS is intruding. You'll spend forever pleasing all of the people.

I guess ideally it should have been taken from a few steps to the right, so all the paintings were visible, the blue tinge was not as intrusive, and the artist was on a third.....

Hello- Re. colour balance- it helps if you have a 'known' area of white in your shot- in this case it could be the white socket* on the wall. The first version does look slightly warm and yellowish, the second has a very definite blue cast. Assuming that there is one dominant light source (temp) I suggest that you adjust the balance so that the socket and the printed card on the table show up as white and greys. Cheers, Gary
*PS. Not sure what the wall colour should be as there are so many tinted white paints on the market
