Afternoon Rab, OK I accept what you have said, I think you should have had a go at the guy in the shop at the time you were there I know I would have, I would certainly report him.
I just think it is very unfair for anyone to slag off other brands when it's all about taking photographs the tools to do it with are personal choice, oh! and well done for winning your competition.
Anyway if you have not been to Merchant City Cameras in Glasgowlink I suggest you do so they are the most helpful camera people I have ever met and they are Pentax Agents, hope you enjoy your K5 when you get it,
regards,
Jack.

Why have you not complained? One thing that I find very annoying is people whining on forums till the sun goes down without making a proper official complaint.
I would have asked to see the manager immediately, taken names, emailed head office AND the Pentax UK sales manager.

In fairness to Rab it is easy to sit at computer and say "why didn't you complain, I would have done immediately" etc etc, but I doubt many of you really would have done anything about it at the time in all honesty. You weren't there, you don't know the circumstances, and lets face it most people would either be too polite, or dumbfounded to complain then and there. It's always easy after the fact to come up with an answer, a complaint or whatever, but at the time, especially if the guy helping you makes a joke of it, the inclination to kick up a fuss just isn't there. Only afterwards does indignation set in.

Sounds rather like a Monty Python sketch really (or one they would have done if they'd had the idea)! I think we should all pay the shop a visit during the Scottish meet, a big crowd of Pentax users storming the shop and the biggest amongst us asking for the guy who has a problem with Pentax
My experience with Jessops Hereford and Pentax (while they weren't stocking the brand) was a sales assistant saying "oh..." when I explained that I was just having a browse of what the other brands had to offer for the same money. I think that was short for "Oh *%^*, I can't sell this bloke anything!"
Meanwhile the independent camera shop around the corner is now stocking Pentax, and when I was last in there I heard a presumably new assistant waving a K-x at someone who'd come in looking to buy a DSLR. They didn't seem too clued up on precisely why you should buy a Pentax over any other brand, but they were at least showing them off.

I am a former retail manager. I always complain for obvious bad service. If everyone just was 'too polite' all that happens is that the idiots keep on getting away with poor service. It is in ALL our interests as consumers to complain and this particular incident certainly needed complaining about.

Sorry if I seem to be out of line with the OP.
I meant that the "assistant" should be reported for his disparaging remarks and that, when sacked for not selling enough items and being an a*%

If you want a proper photographic shop in Glasgow then Calumet is the only choice.
