Tamron sp 24-135

Anyone know this lens well?

Not personally!

I do have a number of Tamron lenses though and like them a lot.
The SP (Super Performance) lenses are particularly good and if you're thinking of buying one of these, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.
Do bear in mind however that while 24-135mm is tremendously versatile, it's an ambitious range and a number of compromises will have been made.
That having been said, if you want a lens with a serious zoom range, this is one of the best.

I had one of these for a couple of years. It was well reviewed and my expereince was that it produced very good results. It also has a very useful close focus. - good enough to fill the frame with larger flowers. But it is quite a heavy and bulky lens, and in the end I changed to the slightly less versatile but much lighter and also very good Pentax FA 28-105 3.2-4.5. which balances much better on my MZ6. I kind of wish I'd kept it as it would have been equivalent to 36-200 on the DS

I have used this lens for 2 years on a *istD and now on a K100D.
It's build quality is very very good but it is heavy - almost 600g - combined with the K100D it becomes a 1.2Kg brick to carry. Be prepared!!
Being a full frame lens the distortion is low on a DSLR also corner softness
is practically non-existent
Colours are a little cold (compared to the pentax 24-90) but I corrected that (almost) with a 1A filter.
Tends to over-expose ( both cameras) Seems to need correction of -0.7 most of the time (not so much at the 24mm end)
Sharpness is very good throughout the range (even wide open)
It's a bit slow but an excellent daylight lens.
Now agonising whether to take the tamron or the pentax on a 10 week trip
The pentax wobbles badly - doesn't feel like it would survive whereas the Tamron feels like you could drop it and carry on.

JUst a thought about using colour correction filters.

If we do this using AWB then the colour of the light will change and the AWB will try to compensate, which is self-defeating.

I think we need to use Daylight setting for this. Or ditch the filter and set the camera to Cloudy, which should be close to the effect of an 81A filter, nice and warm.

I will try that white balance setting. It's very difficult to get away with no filter at all in New Zealand. Our UV levels are horrific - Ozone hole.
I started with a UV filter on this lens but the 1A did seem to make a little difference.
I will try your suggestion but refit the UV filter.
