Errr, yes but I don't see what this has to do with focusing at anything other than maximum aperture? Whatever K mount camera I use (from an ME Super through Super As to the K10/20D) the lens only shuts down at the moment of taking the picture. The only wrinkle is the need to push the green button to meter on the K10/20?

Confused!

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

With a PK/A mount you set the aperture on camera to say f13 .. you have a clear bright image through the viewfinder .. you focus and shoot .. no problem. WIth a K mount you open the aperture ring wide open, meter using the green button, adjust using the wheel if needed, close aperture on the lens to f13 and then shoot. Baring in mind macro needs a precise area of focus and absolutely no movement which would be easier (especially handheld).

No one is saying its impossible with the k mount, just that it's a damned site easier with a PK/A mount.

Unless I have been doing it wrong all this time .. which is possible I suppose.

Well, this thread got me wondering so I went off and looked up some Adaptall 2 PK mount photos. Genuine ones do have the aperture linkage! After-market ones (like this one) don't.

In my defence I got a PKA adapter quite quickly after getting the third party PK adapter. Now I only use the after-market PK adapter on a 500mm mirror (with a fixed aperture).

I think you might have been doing it wrong, Mike! If the adapter has the auto linkage, setting the aperture to f/13 will not close the lens down so you can focus wide open. When you press the green button it will stop down for a moment to meter (usually wrongly ), and then will stop down when you take the photo provided, of course, you have "permitted aperture ring".

Having said all that, it is CONSIDERABLY easier to use the A setting on a PK/A mount. We are all agreed there!

Best wishes, Kris.

That could explain our collective confusion!

Well, just tried out my 35-70 adaptall plus Tamron adaptall 2x converter and genuine mount (with aperture switching) and it operates just the same as a K or M pentax lens. Use on manual and green switch to set shutter speed for given aperture. Optical preview works, providing of course your eyes have been modded for night vision!

Just shot some Xmas tree decorations with the 540 flash (annoying the hell out of the missus, who is watching some cr*ppy American film). Found out that wireless and P-TTL are no-good, but setting flash to manual and playing with flash output/aperture/ISO I could get a good exposure very quickly, even bouncing off the ceiling.

Time for bed, I think!

I can recommend buying the K adapter and do a little "operation" on your camera ( 100% reversible ).
Read this thread http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/63878-how-convert-...
I can assure it works! Tested with Tamron 90 2.5 macro.

I hope the "crazy" prices for a KA adapter may have a stop with this trick.

( as always, sorry for my English )

Thanks but I have just bought a PKA adaptor with 6 months warranty as the total setup incl lens at(£170) still works out at half the price of a new tamron sp90 and i can use it on other adaptall 2 lenses
