Tamron 28-75 new or used?

Hi,

I am torn between buying the lens new from SRS (330 pound) with 5 years of warranty or used, from germany, about 230 pounds, 12 months warranty included.

I tried two of these before giving up and going for a 17-50. Both copies of the 28-75 were horrendously soft wide open and never great stopped down. I would strongly recommend buying new with a warranty and going to a place to try first, because bad copies are out there and they can't be that uncommon.

Yeah that's what make me think. The German lens has 12 months warranty, but sending it back to Germany can be annoying.

I bump this thread because I still did not decide if actually to buy this lens. I was really keen to take it since it could be useful for portrait indoor, but I wonder if for the outdoor would make any difference to have this compared to the 17-70 (Which is not really great for portrait, is it?)

I think you're better off buying a zoom lens new. It doesn't take much if a knock to damage an internal roller and this can cause the lens to produce images which are soft down one side etc.
Buy new and enjoy the long warranty on a lens which has not been misused.
You only need to tap the filter ring on a certain competitors 18-55mm kit lens, and it will cause all sorts of problems.
