Tamron 18/270

Hi Guys does any one have a copy of this lens that could offer an opinion of it good or bad.

Hi Ian, I have this lens not for Pentax though, I would say this is a superb lens and is very underestimated but that might be me, all I can say is I am very happy with it, you can see some of the results here link

As far as I know Tamron don't make those for Pentax.
The IQ seems to be the same as the 18-250 but with a slightly extended range.
The difference between 250 and 270 isn't that much though.

My reason for asking re this lens is I have the Tokina 28 105 recently on the camera as a walk about but on a good few occasions I needed it to be wider. I have the Sigma 10/20 and 17/70 but on a lazy day it would be nice to have the option of just taking the one lens. Im quite happy with the IQ on the Tonika but its frustraiting not having that little bit extra at both ends of the scale.

If you want to go wider I would suggest you to wait what the upcoming Pentax DA 18-135 WR has to offer.
The Pentax/Tamron 18-250 are the best superzooms in terms of IQ but they do offer quite some destorition at the wide end.
I believe the Sigma 18-250 has HSM so maybe faster focus?

I have just bought the Sigma 18-250 and I am more than happy with it so far. It's very solid and focus is quick.The pics from it are better than I expected from a zoom with such a range in fact I would say as good as the kit len lens.

Been thinking this through and an 18/200 would be fine for the purposes I need from a walk about. Can I expect the 18/200 Tamron or Sigma lenses to be optically as good as there 250 versions as if so this would save me a pound or two.

I have and use both a Tammy 18-250 (on the K200) and Sigma 18-200 (on the K110) and find both produce good results.

The Tammy was bought as an all purpose walk about/holiday lens to replace the Sigma. IQ with both is fine.

Thanks Hardgravity this is the route Im going down just now need to make the choice between the two lenses from what I can see from the reveiws theres little between them.

The thing to remember with the Sigma 18-200 is it stops short, going out to around 180mm.

Having said that, they're cheaper when you find them and, if you don't need the long end that much, good value for money.

Im a little confused to say the least the cost is from £149 for the SIGMA 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 NAF DC NON MO and £199 for the rest.

I think it's in the name for wich mount they are meant.
So EOS would be canon
NAF nikon maybe, Paf pentax, SON sony... SAF sigma maybe???


If you click more specification you see the mount.
EOS is canon
DAF is Nikon
NIX is Nikon
SON is sony
PAF is pentax
SAF is sigma
SIG is Sigma

btw tamron also have a 18-200 lens for Pentax, don't know if that one might be better?

I think the Tamron is the better lens, the Sigma seems to be really soft at the corners while Tamron keeps it quite high across the frame, off course there is some fall off but it's still decent.
The Tamron is also 10 pounds cheaper.

Hi Stefan thats what I thought as well but the SIGMA 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 NAF DC NON MO, is nearly £50 cheaper than the rest I will have to give them a call and see. The Tamron is £169 on there site.

But that's a Nikon mount so that won't do you any good, it's most likely cheaper because that one is replaced.
Also have a look at the tamron, posted the reviews of the sigma and the tamron in my previous comment and the Tammy seems to be better.
The distortions are the same but the Sigma is really soft wide open at the corners while Tamron keeps it quite high across the frame.
