Tamron 18-250, how's yours?

Sue has the Pentax 18-250mm and virtually every shot she takes is sharp, so clearly something is amiss.

Often use mine (Tamron flavour). At the wider end it should be at least as sharp as the kit 18-55 lens if not better (more barrel distortion though). Things get a little softer at the tele end but the centre always remains reasonable, even wide open at 250mm.
Have you tried it on a tripod, just to eliminate any issue other than the lens being at fault?
But I agree with JR - sounds like it may need to go back unfortunately.

Comparing the same subject using my Sigma 18-200 and the Tamy, both wide open, the Sigma is noticeably sharper. The Tamy is also producing Chromic aberration and shooting one ISO (400 instead of 200) lower.
So I may have to send the lens to Tamron then?
I'll return it to Jessops first and see what they say.

I have the Pentax 18-250 and I'm more than happy with it but I have questioned it's sharpness a few times, I usually correct it in my software,

Same for me Jack. Sharpness seems to fall off a bit at the long end of the lens rather than towards the wide angle. But for general use a very good lens.

I find mine to be one of the sharper lenses I own. Even better is its versatility in that is seems to be sharp end to end.

Had the Pentax version and it seemed good till I got the DFA 100mm macro and I sold it to finance the DA*50-135 since I hardly use that lens.
The DA18-250 I had preformed good on my K10D, no focus problems or sharpness issues. I did had CAS though wide open and using it on the long or wide ends.
Just a question what might be a problem, do you use a UV filter?
Some lenses really don't like filters so that might be an issue.

No filters Stefan, I think it's just a dodgy lens!
Compared to the Sigma it lacks performance, which it shouldn't, it should be better according to the reviews I've read.

I have a Pentax 18-250mm. Just focus at 250mm and zoom out to the desired focal length, while locking focus. In this way my pictures are very sharp indeed.

I know it's an old post but here's the update.
According to 2020, who import tammy lenses to the UK,the lens is working within the specified parameters.
!!!!
Still seems VERY soft at 250 and poor at locking on!
It may have to go!

I'm still struggling to get consistent results from it, a hit rate of one in seven or so being sharp.
Is anybody else having similar problems, or is it just me?
It's being used on the K200d bye the way.
