Takumar lens question

Hi again,

I'd like to learn more about the history of the older Takumar lenses. Can anybody suggest a website I can visit to get the info I want?

Essentially, I'd like to know the differences between the Super-Takumar & Super Multi Coated Takumar lenses, some are also described as Auto-Takumar. I'm aware of the SMC coating and its benefits.

Also, which in your esteemed opinions, is the better type of lens to collect (for use, not to gather dust). I have a 105mm 1:2.8 on its way

I don't propose buying a M42 threaded camera, I want to try them out on my istD (difficulties of use commented by George in another thread has been noted) and MZ-S.

I've found a previous thread on this subject which answers most of my questions.

Thanks.

The Spotmatic Users Group on Yahoo is a wonderful resource. Lots of highly knowledgeable folks on that one.

I've found this site quite useful too:

http://kajiwara.weebly.com/en-home.html

I came across it when trying to work out how to distinguish between the older 5-element and newer 6-element S-M-C Takumar 135/2.5.

Best of luck in your endeavours with Takumars - I have a modest collection and am always impressed by their mechanical and optical quality.

I have a few Takumars and would strongly recommend the SMC versions over the non SMC ones - they appear to me to produce superior images - sharper, more colourful, more contrasty. I love these lenses, so beautiful to use and so tactile. Watch out for oil on the Aperture blades though, it seems to afflict the Taks more than most lenses.
