Hi,
The seller is a reputable one and I doubt very much he would send a lens out with a part missing. As far as glass at the back is concerned, much will depend on the consruction of the lens but if there is glass at the back it is most likely to be the rear element rather than a "cover".
Depending on which 35-70 it was, it may br worth getting it cleaned. The A35-70/4 is a very good lens and much better than the Takumar you bought. If it is the A35-70/3.5-4.5, then there will be much less difference.

I'm a bit of a novice so apologies if this is a stupid question. I recently dug out my old P30 to and found that there was fungus in my Pentax 35-70 zoom lens. I was advised at a camera shop to get a cheap second hand lens as it was not possible or worth it to get rid of the fungus.
I bought this Takumar A lense from e-bay. I know it's not a great lens but I just wanted something to play around with. It's arrived and all looks fine apart from there is no glass at the back of the lens. On my old lens, there is a flat glass panel covering the rear. I assume it is there to proect the interior of the lens from dirt. Should there be a glass panel at the back of the Takumar lens?
Thanks in advance.
