Wow! The street price of this lens is much more realistic for seriously wide angle work. And the quality's pretty excellent too (maybe not up to Pentax )

That gives 15mm equivalent

sounds really interesting, at £350 a much more sensible price than pentax's 12-24. Looking forward to some reviews, but if it is as good as the Sigma EX 100-300 I may well buy one

Interesting indeed, but I won't be tempted. I'll wait for a good deal on the Pentax 12-24 and I think will be much happier in the long run.

I think 12mm (18mm equivalent) will be wide enough - I rarely used the SMC Pentax 15mm f3.5 when I had one.

Well at least the Signa may encourage Pentax to be more sensible with their 12-24 price. Some of the initial comments on dpreview indicate that the Pentax may not be all its expected to be, especially with regard to colour fringing. I would really like an extreme wide angle for landscapes, and the price difference between the Pentax and Sigma could pay for an awful lot of trips to the mountains. At the end of the day pictures are more important than brand loyalty

On a positive note; it's really good to see the big independents once again supporting Pentax (and Konica Minolta) users

I agree with you, Kevin, the important thing is to take pictures. When it comes down to it, we don't need much equipment to make great photographs, but there's always a big difference between "need" and "want".

It's not so much brand loyalty that lies behind my Pentax-only choice, but the consistent ergonomics. The SMC coating gives pretty consistent colour reproduction. The aperture rings (where present) always rotate the same way, same for the focusing, there is some consistency in filter sizes. And of course in general the optical qiality and construction quality are better.

Now the 12-24mm does have a very high price, but then so do the limited lenses and many others in the range. My particular choice will be to wait until I can afford it, or, more probably, talk myself into it before I can afford it....Such is life
Best regards, John

Very, very tempted. Do you think SWMBO would miss it amongst all the other Christmas action on the credit card?
