For what it's worth, I've been in the market for a similar tablet and I've put in an order for one of these:-




Sumvision Cyclone voyager 297 Tablet PC

It's got a lot of heat on HUKD.

Sumvision seem to have a good reputation regarding build-quality and this model's got a very decent screen which should be great for viewing photos.

Hmm. That would be annoying. It can't be that the image files you put on there are actually altered in any way ... it must just be that the screen is calibrated for lots of saturation etc.

Any tablet you choose will have some screen calibration settings built in that are probably not under the user's control. I know that lots of people really didn't like the Galaxy S2 because the screen was supposed to be too saturated. This was then toned down a little with the s3 and the colours looked more natural.

This review of the s3 talks about all AMOLED screens having a slightly blue cast:

I doubt the sony blurb is anything more than this. They are just trying to make it sound exciting. But it might be worth testing it out in a shop before purchasing.

I've looked at the xperia z in shops and it is an excellent machine, but pricey. Buying refurbished gives significant savings with standard manufactures warrantee.

Thanks for all your help folks. I looked at as many as I can physically, read online expert and user reviews etc and as you would expect ended up where I started - they all have good and bad points. One of the main issues though is who do you want to buy one from just in case you have problems?

I'm an iPad user but have always highly rated Sony stuff. If Android floats your boat you could do a lot worse than a Sony tablet. Try an iPad if you can though, you might like it.

Do any of these tablets allow tethering to a K5 or the K3? I'm often in need of instant feedback from clients and peeping at the back of the camera unprofessional at best

On the K3 you'll be able to load a Flucard in the spare SD slot and connect the camera to any android/apple/windows tablet or phone.

Edit, I think you probably can also use it on the single slot K5, but you'll be limited to the capacity of the Flucard.

eye fi card wirelessly sends images from sd car to computer, ios or android. The ipad is slow to transfer the android is very fast to transfer.

I dont think any of them are any good if you want to process photos are they?just ok for viewing the finished product.

I wouldn't want to do any serious editing of any important images on a 7"tablet, I would want to use my PC and big monitor.

Bigger tablets with better screens might be OK though?

I wouldn't fancy lugging a 22" tablet around! The desktop PC with a proper IPS monitor will take some beating for a while yet, for imaging anyway.

Browsing the web, I see many "Camera Bags" advertised have a side pouch for a laptop.

I agree with johnriley though, my days of lugging my entire kit around in a large bag the weight of a small child are over, especially with current good quality zooms. Often, just camera and a small prime lens comes with me.

The idea of the FLUCARD though, usable with K-3, and any modern smartphone running Safari or Chrome browsers is brilliant, with so many photographers owning smartphones...open the .jpg in Instagram or similar for a quick and dirty edit and upload to social media.....
