Tablet screen quality

I am in the market for a new tablet. From what I saw in some shops there is a difference in quality of screens between Samsung and Asus - Google Nexus. The picture on the Samsung screens seems just with more rich, saturated and pleasant image than Asus - Google Nexus. Is it only me? Do other see the same difference? Does it have anything to do with fact that Samsung is one of the world leaders in TV and computer screens technology?

I compared screens of a few models and the Nook HD+ appeared significantly better to me. As a tablet it's a bit more limited than others (I believe) - but I only use a couple of apps, internet browsing and checking my K5 photos (on a micro sd card which I had to buy) when I'm not at home. I'm chuffed with it

What I can tell you is that the Retina display on my iPad 4 is excellent. It also reproduces the 16-step wedge on EPZ accurately.

+1 for the Retina display you will not find a better screen on the market.

I've read that the Sony Experia-Z has picture quality equivalent to an HD (1080) 50" tv!! I'm going to take a look at one, and then get it brought in from Thailand, as the tech out there is generally a bit cheaper. The wife looked at the iPod Touch 16Gb (latest model) on Apple's Thailand site, where it was priced around £75 cheaper than the exact same model here in the UK!!

Seriously considering a tablet to replace my aging laptop, but so many different ones on the market.

Apart from general web surfing which will be fine on anything, the main requirement is for photo/video editing ability. Can the iPad 4 do this happily? - my current laptop is a bit ancient and freezes a lot.

Another thing worth looking at (although far from cheap) is the Windows Surface Pro.

I would forget a tablet for photo editing and stick with a good laptop. There just isn't the capacity on a tablet and the apps are not a patch on full Photoshop. The control isn't there either as there's no mouse or keyboard.

I completely agree. Even cheap laptops (Medion, Lenovo, Acer etc) are of good quality and powerful.

Better to get a laptop first. Use a tablet to promote your work to prospective clients by having images sized to suit (will use less memory)

Anyway +1 for the Retina on the iPad. I don't have retina on my iPad 1, but it is still a good screen.

As the same as everybody else has stated, I just use the iPad for viewing photos not editing, also take it away with me for storing and uploading photos, and use my Mac for editing.

But I will stick with what I said I have yet to find anything on the market to beat the retina display.

There is still a place for tablets, cabstar and I both use Photgene on iPads when on the move, it's an impressive app.

I would not recommend replacing a laptop with a tablet, but there is definitely a place for tablets thanks to Apple.

I recommend you invest in a good Ultrabook!

Samsung Note 10.1 for me - superb but then I`m no Apple fan and it works in well with a galaxy smartphone and the NX 300.

In currently using a basic iPad 2 16gb WiFi version and as Ken said above photogene is excellent. However my laptop will be replaced soon with the Microsoft surface pro tablet. Runs proper full programs like lightroom and photoshop, has proper windows and proper usb plugs. The perfect laptop replacement for me
