Swans

Had the 60-250 on the K5 yesterday, so also took the Kx with the Siggy 150-500 too. First time I've used the Kx since I bought the K5 back in June. The Kx didn't disappoint. Captured these resident swans protecting their cygnets and chasing off other swans who were on the lake

Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture f/6.3
Focal Length 340 mm
ISO Speed 1000

Kevin, I know sometimes its hard to put into words when something just does not seem right. Be grateful if you'd try though, as I really like this one, and would appreciate any advice to improve it.

Alan ... I've downloaded the shot to play around with it a little and found that what was disturbing me was the lack of detail in the shadows. I've pulled the shadows a little but this copy is too small and I've introduced noise into the shadows, you may be able to pull the detail without noise on the original if you like this processing ... or not !

Thanks for taking the trouble Kevin. My initial thought was that the water surface was generally messy (apart from directly in front of the swans. I was looking to minimise this mess. I'll take another look when I'm at home tonight

It's a difficult one to process Alan. Can't get much brighter whites than Swans (and there is more detail in the Swans in your version) and as I said you have to protect them, but the shadows are very dark. Maybe using a brush to selectively pull the detail from the shadows rather than a global adjustment would work.

Kevin, here's another version. Still darkened some of the crud in the foreground. This time with a grad filter.

Be grateful for any further comments? Personally, I like colours of the swans in the updated version the best, but prefer the reflections and water of the first one

Changed privacy settings now to hopefully allow you to at least access the link. Now I can't see it on the forum. Here it is again. I wish we were allowed to edit pics on previous posts
