Probably splitting hairs, but the truly raw output from the sensor has to be processed somewhat to decipher the information and present it as a demosaiced colour image. There is, so to speak, a bare minimum that has to be done regardless.

However, there is no application of colour temperatures, styles, etc. and the save is lossless.
Not splitting hairs at all John. All RAW images are a function of the manufacturers individual process. If not, there would be no difference to a RAW file from any SONY sensor used in different brands.

One fundamental thing changed when DSLR's arrived, you now buy a "film" type body (you may like the std colour of Pentax or Nikon or Canon or SONY etc) rather than have the ability to use different types/makes of film in the same body for true RAW.

Fortunately, Pentax IQ out of the camera is amongst, if not the best out there.
